Duckie’s Outing

These young women were my mother Mary’s pals when she was in nurses’ training at Brooklyn General Hospital during the depression. The snap was taken in Fort Greene Park above the hospital during the winter; these two were wrapped in raccoon, red cloche was holding what appeared to be a box of chocolates and staring at the camera with such sexual intensity that I have always wondered 1) who was taking the photograph and 2) were the two women more than just friends? Only they and perhaps Mary could tell us, and they’re all gone now. The mystery remains to tickle us.

No, of course the park was not busy with furry buddies oblivious to the activity around them.
